A dairy farm employee contracted unusual pink eye and cough
During the week, Colorado officials confirmed that another dairy farm worker has tested positive for avian flu. The man reported having pink eye and mild respiratory symptoms, which are consistent with the three previous instances of human bird flu cases recorded this year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Colorado’s findings in a statement, affirming that its current risk to the public remains low. Those that work with infected animals have a higher risk of contracting the virus.
Meanwhile, the USDA is continuing to research a potential bird flu vaccine for dairy cows, which are the only animals recorded to have spread bird flu to humans. Though the department is collaborating with about two dozen companies to develop such a vaccine, the USDA hopes to eliminate the bird flu in dairy cows without employing widespread vaccination.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the CDC as it works with state officials to keep track of notable viral strains.
- That the USDA’s research opens the door to widespread dairy cow health.
- For the president’s administration as it monitors the complex systems that keep America running.
